Most of us find it hard to believe, but children learn to work on computers faster than we did, when we first started with these machines. Buying laptops for kids makes sense in more ways than one. First of all, it keeps them engaged in activities which combine education with entertainment. Secondly, they start to get exposed to a world which they are going to face in future. Play laptops are particularly suitable for smaller children as they find playing with familiar characters, for example Winnie the Pooh, fun and engrossing.

Perhaps the best part is that kid laptops are specially designed for use by children. While the parents can be with the child during playing, they can rest assured that the kids are managing a machine which is safe and user-friendly. Over and above the education and entertainment which a computer can provide, in which other ways can your child benefit from laptops?

  • Improvement of dexterity skills and hand-to-eye coordination.
  • Their curiosity is stimulated when they learn to press specific buttons which perform specific functions. By working with kid computers from an early age, they are not shy or nervous, when they are exposed to bigger and more complicated machines as young adults.
  • Laptop for kids especially those that are designed for playing and learning are usually recommended for children over 3 years of age. They say that even younger children learn faster from merely watching their elder siblings playing on the computer. The colors are always bright and cheerful and the layouts are attractive. These make kids’ laptops especially tempting for children.
  • Play and learn laptops have no substitutes when it concerns gifting a kid with a toy that helps him to learn as well as get entertained. It keeps the kid motivated during the process of learning, something most children resent.

  • Decide on the reason your kid needs a laptop. If he is a student then a student laptop could be sufficient. However if the kid is really small, does he need a laptop or a desktop would serve the purpose? Therefore, think clearly why your kid needs a laptop and what purpose it is going to serve. This way, buying a kid laptop can get easier.
  • If your kid is a high school student and needs a laptop for doing school work, then you might as well choose a budget laptop. Since he might not need to use it very frequently, a budget laptop from Dell should be sufficient. But if your kid is in college, he might need a laptop on the higher end as the computer might be used to create presentations, etc. For such needs, an ultra-portable model of laptop is just right.
  • Though this may not always be warranted since your kid can always use the desktop, if you are really keen to buy him a laptop purely for gaming purposes, then go for one from Dell or Alienware.
  • In case your kid is old enough to use multimedia – like posting videos on YouTube, cutting a DVD, etc, then you have to consider laptops for kids with Firewire support.
  • In case the computer is also going to be used by someone else in the family, then you might as well choose a replacement model for your desktop. These not only have wider screens but the laptop can also be used as a desktop also.

Hopefully the guidelines given above would be helpful to you when you decide to go for laptops for kids. Computers are great investments for kids as they learn the art of working with technology from an early age and the computer can serve both as an educational as well as an entertainment tool.

If this is the first time your kid is going to work with computers, it is always wiser to choose a budget model. The computer can always be upgraded as the kid grows up. Look for a budget machine which can withstand rough handling, as your kid is going to learn his way up, through methods of trial and error.
